Washington is downplaying Seoul's latest ban on US beef, saying it expects beef trade with Korea to soon get back on track.
Korea is set to return 66 tons of US beef that were found to have violated the country's import restrictions last week, slapping a ban on the US beef processing plant that sent the shipments.
The controversial beef was reportedly processed for the US market and not for export.
Speaking to reporters in Washington, US Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns said the latest development is just a startup trade glitch as Korea had only recently lifted the three-year ban on the US beef.
He said Korea has asked for information on shipments and once the US puts that information together, the beef trade between the two countries will be back on track.
